Drafting and Design Associate (can be employee, or contractor to start)

Key Responsibilities

• Has major responsibility for office project drafting in Vectorworks 12.5. Includes drafting for custom design projects and design/drafting of modifications on pre-designed home plans.

• Takes stock plan modification projects from beginning through to completion and beyond, including some design development, drafting, fulfillment, and availability for questions after plans are shipped.

• Later on, guides prospective clients through the BCMH catalogue and services, providing them with information and consultation in order for them to be able to make wise decisions about house features, design, and siting.

Detailed Skills and Knowledge

Absolutely critical

• Possesses excellent and seasoned drafting skills: thorough, accurate, clear and timely. Able to draft well with little supervision.

• Possesses very good knowledge of wood-frame construction.

• Able to ensure all plans and designs meet the applicable bylaws and codes, and informs client in writing and on plans when other professional reviews are needed.

Necessary for expanding the scope and interest of the job

• Develops a thorough knowledge of the catalogue, including plan features, status, appropriateness, style, flexibility, and building experience, and develops a sense of ownership in the catalogue.

• Exhibits excellent listening, consulting, and recording skills, so prospect/client feels heard, and BCMH misses nothing.

• Be able to determine if changes to a pre-designed plan being requested are feasible and wise, and be able to quickly see/offer other options.

• Be able to converse re ballpark construction costs.

• Design plan modifications that are respectful of the plan, the client, general design principles, and buildability.

• Manage fulfillment and follow-up with BC Mountain Homes clients.

• Contribute design and marketing ideas for both sides of the business.

• Learn SketchUp and create renderings of new catalogue designs.
